Floki, Elon Musk's Shiba Inu: the dog that moves cryptocurrency markets

Among celebrity dogs there are dogs that go viral, dogs that appear in films, dogs that walk onto center court at major events, and then there is Floki, Elon Musk's Shiba Inu: probably the only dog in the world whose photo can push the price of real cryptocurrencies up or down. What matters about these episodes is the plain fact that a physical, real dog can trigger coordinated economic movement on a global scale. There is no precedent for it.

AKC group: Non-Sporting Group. The Shiba Inu is a Japanese spitz-type breed and one of the oldest dog breeds in existence.
Origin: Japan. Genetic analyses place the Shiba among the breeds with the least evolutionary divergence from the wolf. The word "inu" simply means "dog" in Japanese.
Size: small to medium. Males stand 14.5-16.5 in (37-42 cm) and weigh about 23 lb (10 kg); females stand 13.5-15.5 in (34-39 cm) and weigh about 17 lb (8 kg).
Appearance: compact body, curled tail carried over the back, erect triangular ears, a foxlike expression. Main colors: red (the most typical), sesame, black and tan, cream. Dense double coat.
Temperament: this is the critical point. The Shiba is independent, stubborn, vocal, strongly prey-driven, and not inclined toward mechanical obedience. The American Kennel Club describes the breed as "alert, active, and attentive," with a famously confident and spirited streak. It is not a beginner's dog.
Intelligence: very high, paired with a strong will to do exactly as it pleases. The Shiba learns fast and disobeys just as fast when unconvinced.
The "Shiba scream": the Shiba has a distinctive high-pitched shriek when annoyed, at the vet, during a bath, sometimes even while being brushed. It is a famous internet sound, but in person it is no fun for close neighbors.
Lifespan: 13-16 years, generally healthy.
